5 Victoria’s Secret Models who are more than just Angels…

Becoming a Victoria’s Secret Angel is the ultimate dream for any model. The annual Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show is like a rite of passage to model royalty, giving the models’ greater exposure and catapulting them to celebrity status.

What is not documented, however, is that many of the Angels have more talents than simply looking incredibly good in lingerie and swimwear. As the annual Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show aired our screens last night, we thought we’d take the time to appreciate what other talents some of the Angels (both past and present) have…

Elsa Hosk

The 26-year-old Swedish model was signed by Victoria’s Secret in 2011 and was awarded the prestigious title of a Victoria’s Secret Angel this year. Despite starting off her modelling career at the tender age of 14, Elsa focused predominantly on her studies. However, she was known to model for the likes of Guess and some other well-known companies on the side.

Basketball is actually where the hidden talents of Elsa Hosk lie. After Elsa graduated from high school, she joined the Swedish women’s basketball league and played the sport professionally for two years! In fact, Elsa said it was the training and hard work that she put into the sport that prepared her for becoming one of the Victoria’s Secret models, namely the intense physical demands and constant traveling. Elsa’s love of modelling eventually led to her giving up playing basketball professionally. We think that this decision paid off well! She landed the ultimate role of a Victoria’s Secret Angel this year, has made models.com Top Sexiest Models list and has worked with some of the world’s biggest fashion brands and designers!

Heidi Klum

Heidi Klum is a woman of many talents, whether she is modelling, acting, producing, designing or presenting, she always seems to be a natural at what she does. Modelling is what shot Heidi Klum to fame, in particular, her infamous cover for Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. From then on she was known as one of the world’s top supermodels and became a Victoria’s Secret Angel in 1997. Her presence in the modelling and fashion world has opened up countless opportunities for Heidi Klum, which have led to her expanding her talents in other areas.

Take acting, for example. Heidi Klum‘s first acting appearance saw her star alongside Michael J Fox in the political sitcom Spin City, which led her to move on to the big screen, starring in movies like Blow Dry, Ella Enchanted and The Life and Death of Peter Sellers. Heidi Klum also has a passion for design and has lent her hand to designing ranges for clothing lines, shoes, jewellery, swimsuits… the list could go on. She has also produced and hosted an award-winning popular TV series, Project Runway, which won several Emmy awards for Outstanding Reality Competition Programme between 2005 and 2012. Pretty impressive list of talents!

Karlie Kloss

Who would have thought that a Victoria’s Secret model could be a coder! Well, Karlie Kloss took many by surprise when she admitted that she was learning how to code. Karlie has frequently spoken out about her venturing into the realms of technology and she hasn’t made any secret about how much she loves it…”Call me a nerd but I love coding, the language of computers. Understanding coding is a superpower”. The 23-year-old American model enjoys coding so much she took a hiatus from modelling in order to focus on business and technology, saying that she needs to start thinking less about her looks and more about her future.

Karlie has pursued her dreams and has partnered with a coding boot camp in New York City and has launched the #KodeWithKarlie scholarship, which has offered scholarships to young girls in America to study at the boot camp! Not only does Karlie love coding but she is also an avid baker and has even created her own branded cookie!

Lyndsey Scott

It seems like many of the Victoria’s Secret models have caught the coding bug! 29-year-old Lyndsey Scott is a Victoria’s Secret model by day and computer programmer by night. Despite being a top model and modelling for the likes of Louis Vuitton, Gucci and, of course, Victoria’s Secret, Lyndsey has also created and developed her own apps! Her most popular app is the iPort which is used by models to create personal portfolios and is used by actors, directors and writers! She has also created six other apps, two of which have been picked up by Apple! Despite spending the majority of her time focusing on technology and coding, Lyndsey has done remarkably well in the modelling agency and was the first African-American woman to get a runway contract with Calvin Klein!

Miranda Kerr

Everybody has heard of Miranda Kerr. The Australian supermodel, who was married to Hollywood actor Orlando Bloom, is a pretty successful supermodel. So successful that she made it onto Forbes’ 2013 Rich List, ranking as the second-highest paid model in the world! She secured her Angel wings in 2007 when she was signed by Victoria’s Secret in order to replace supermodel Gisele Bündchen. Despite being one of the world’s most sought-after models, Miranda does have talents elsewhere. In 2014, she teamed up with Irish crooner Bobby Fox to record a cover of Elvis Presley’s ‘You’re The Boss’ which was released on Bobby Fox’s album. It’s debatable whether or not Miranda will see her singing career take off, the song received mixed reviews from critics and she hasn’t released anything since. Make up your own opinions on the song by listening below…
