It’s been a year of Hollywood blockbusters, and they are bound to bring some brand-new fresh faces to our screens. So who are the movie stars to watch out for when we take a visit to the cinema this year and are they likely to hit the big time?
This 23-year-old British actor has probably landed one of the biggest movie roles of 2015/16. Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which was released on 16 December 2015, is a huge success. Whoever stars in the movie will be sure to have their faces seen by millions of Star Wars and non-Star Wars fans alike. John Boyega plays the role of Finn, a human male who serves the role of a storm-trooper in the First Order. This role could set up the actor for major stardom, especially if past Star Wars actors’ successes are anything to go by. Take Harrison Ford who rose to fame after playing Hans Solo in the original Star Wars trilogy!
Another newcomer who starred in a major role in the Star Wars movie is Daisy Ridley, a 23-year-old actress from the UK. Daisy has never starred in such a big movie, in fact, before she landed this impressive role, Daisy had only played some smaller roles in a couple of successful British TV series. However, her big break seems to have come in the form of the character ‘Rey’, who is a scavenger with a strong connection to the force. Her part in this movie is surely going to make Daisy Ridley a household name… she already has over 200,000 Instagram followers, despite only joining late 2015!
Cara Delevigne has already made her name known in the world of modelling. She has walked the catwalks for the biggest fashion brands in the world like Chanel, Burberry, Givenchy… the list could go on. However, despite her talents in modelling, Cara has publicly spoken out about her love of acting and how it is fast becoming her ‘full-time’ job. She recently starred in her first ‘big’ movie titled ‘Paper Towns‘, a coming-of-age story written by John Green, author of box-office hit, The Fault In Our Stars. But her biggest part is yet to come. Cara has landed a role in ‘Suicide Squad‘, set to be one of the biggest movies of 2016, where she will star alongside a stellar cast consisting of Will Smith, Jared Leto and Margot Robbie. Cara plays the role of Enchantress, which sees her take on a dual personality capable of meek and wild capabilities. Will this movie see Cara shy away from the glitz of the catwalk across to the bright lights of Hollywood for good?
Yet another Brit to add to the list! Taron Egerton is a Welsh actor who became known for his role in Legend in which he starred alongside well-known actor Tom Hardy. Taron plays one of the Krays’ ‘henchmen’ in the 2015 movie but his big break has come in the form of the 2016 movie ‘Eddie the Eagle‘. The film follows the life of Eddie ‘The Eagle’ Edwards, a British skier who became the first to represent Great Britain in Olympic ski jumping. Playing the main lead role, Taron stars alongside Hollywood A-listers Hugh Jackman and Christopher Walken. We think it’s fair to say that Taron will become a household name in 2016… not just because of his great talents but because of his down-to-earth charm… ‘I’ve made these films and I’m really proud, but my lifestyle hasn’t changed’.
The youngest candidate to make our list is 10-year-old Neel Sethi who played the role of Mowgli in Disney’s adaptation of ‘The Jungle Book‘. Neel secured the role out of thousands of auditions from America, Canada, New Zealand and the UK and it will be his first ever acting role! The adaptation was released in April to critical and financial success. The success is understandable, especially with a cast made up of Scarlett Johansson, Idris Elba and Bill Murray! However, Neel is the only ‘live’ character in the movie, with the others just doing the voice-overs for well-known characters like Baloo and Shere Khan. With the film as successful as expected, we will probably see a lot more of Neel Sethi in the future.
Ezra Miller has been in the acting business for some time, starring in a number of pretty successful movies such as ‘City Island’ and more recently he landed a part alongside Emma Watson in ‘The Perks of Being a Wallflower’. If you’ve heard his name before, then that is probably why. However, Ezra is set to become a big name in 2016. If you didn’t know already, a spin-off of Harry Potter called ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them‘ has begun production. The book of the same name, written by J.K Rowling, is about the mythical and magical creatures in the Harry Potter series, with Ezra set to take on the role of Credence. 2016 looks to be just the starting point of Ezra Miller’s career taking off. He has also got a pretty large part to play in DC Comic’s extended universe as he’ll be playing the part of Justice League founder ‘The Flash’, a role he cameoed as in ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’ and will star in the ‘Justice League’ films and his own ‘The Flash’ film.
