With many big-budget Bollywood blockbusters planning ahead and booking the release dates of their movies up to 2 years in advance, this allows us to have a good idea which films to look out for. Like any other year, we can expect big movie releases around Eid, Independence Day, Diwali and Christmas – but which movies can’t you miss in 2015? Read on to find out…
10. Bajirao Mastani
Due for release right at the end of 2015, Bajirao Mastini stars the very talented Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra in leading roles. The movie is a romantic-historical film and narrates the life of Maratha Peshwa Baji Rao (played by Ranveer Singh) and his second wife Mastani, played by Deepika. Apparently, training for the film is already underway, with Deepika Padukone having to learn how to use a sword and how to ride on horseback. It’s about time we finally got to see this movie as the director has been nurturing the project for almost 15 years, signing the likes of Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor back in 2004, but nothing ever materialising. Just a shame we have to wait up until Christmas…
The upcoming movie Shandaar, starring Alia Bhatt and Shahid Kapoor, is a love story where the pair form a relationship and bond over sleepless nights, both having insomnia. The movie has been filmed in a number of locations, in the UK, Poland and India, with the set for the film being described as the most expensive and lavish! If you want a sneak peek of the movie, Alia Bhatt tweeted a picture of the duo on the set of the film looking very comfortable in each other’s company. From the same director of ‘Queen‘, this movie has high expectations and is one not to be missed.

The production has been filmed around the world and features scenes filmed in Lebanon and Turkey. Katrina Kaif and Saif Ali Khan star as the lead roles, both playing secret agents. Apparently, Khan was required to learn to speak Kurdish for the movie. Due for release at the end of August, there is still some time to wait before you can watch this action movie!
7. Dil Dhadakne Do
With the film poster for Dil Dhadakne Do being released back in July 2014, the release date is nearly a year afterwards in June 2015. The drama follows the holiday of a dysfunctional Punjabi family aboard a European cruiseship. The casting of the movie is top notch, with Priyanka Chopra, Anushka Sharma and Ranveer Singh to name but a few. With the promotion of the movie to start soon, the makers of the film have come up with different methods of promotion to attract the younger audience the film is aimed at by staging musical concerts. So not only do you have the actual film to look forward to, there may also be some concerts for you to attend!
Varun Dhawan is currently one of Bollywood’s most adored and followed actors. However, his upcoming part in Badlapur sees Varun take on a more serious and sophisticated role for which he dramatically changed his look. Promotions for the film start this Sunday, 1st February, with February 20th set as the release date! For 5 reasons not to miss this movie, check out these reasons from the Times of India.
5. M S Dhoni – The Untold Story
The official biopic about one of the greatest ever cricketers and sportsmen, MS Dhoni, is due to grace our screens towards the end of 2015. Apparently featuring humour, romance, tragedy and triumph, this movie clearly has it all. Played by Sushant Singh Rajput, the film doesn’t solely focus on the stardom that Dhoni achieved but takes a look at Dhoni’s inspirational rise from humble beginnings to an iconic and extremely talented sports star. Portraying a sporting legend will take some skill, hence Sushant has been training for months to try and replicate in the movie the talent that Dhoni has on the cricket pitch.
One of the most awaited movies of 2015, Roy features a stellar cast. Starring Sri Lankan beauty Jacqueline Fernandez, Arjun Rampal and Ranbir Kapoor, the thriller is set for huge success with its line-up and chart-busting songs. The movie becomes even more appealing due to Jacqueline Fernandez playing the role of two characters. The movie plot is based around a love-triangle between an aspiring film-maker (Rampal), a thief (Kapoor) and their mutual love interest (Fernandez). The romantic film is due for release on February 13th, just in time for Valentine’s Day!
Baby is one of the few films on this list that has already been released, hitting the cinemas on January 23rd, already receiving some great reviews and has become the highest opening day grosser of 2015. Directed by Neeraj Panday who has created some outstanding films like ‘A Wednesday‘ and ‘Special 26′, the film was automatically set off on a steady footing. Being described as fast-paced and well-acted, the action thriller has been said to have been influenced by Hollywood’s ‘Argo‘ starring Ben Affleck. Definitely a must see of 2015… if you haven’t seen it already!
Gabbar is an action comedy film starring Akshay Kumar and is a remake of the 2002 Tamil film, Ramanna. The movie sees Kumar start a vigilante group called the ACF (Anti-Corruption Force) which aim to eliminate the most corrupt criminals. The film is set to be a big one, with COO of Viacom stating that Gabbar has the ‘makings of a blockbuster, with an ensemble cast and an engaging narrative’. The movie is due for release on May 1st.
After the much-anticipated movie being delayed due to an injury sustained by the lead role, Shah Rukh Khan, Fan has been re-scheduled for release in August 2015 rather than at the beginning of the year. The movie has been in production since July 2014 and sees SRK take on a dual role in the movie, playing both the superstar and the crazy fan who idolises him. Obviously, playing 2 parts means that the special effects and make-up needs to be top class, hence why Oscar-winning special-effects make-up artist Greg Cannom will be doing SRK’s make-up! The actress who will be playing the lead female role has not yet been announced, but there has been talks suggesting Ilena D’Cruz or Vani Kapoor. Who would you rather take the part?
