Ritu Kumar

Padma Shri Awardee, Ritu Kumar, is a household name in Bollywood. Ritu Kumar has worked with all the stars in tinsel town and is one of the most popular fashion designers available. Ritu Kumar’s expertise lies in combining traditional, ancient craftsmanship with contemporary designs playing with a wide palette of colours. Ritu Kumar has been involved with in the styling of many award shows and has designed clothes for numerous international celebrities throughout her career. Ritu Kumar’s forte lies in Indian traditional clothes with heavy embroidery and textures that enrich the ensemble, a style statement that has become iconic in India. Ritu Kumar established her own brand in 1969 and it is now the largest and one of the most respected fashion brands in India today. Some of Ritu Kumar’s clients include Indian stars such as Priyanka Chopra, Aishwarya Rai, Dia Mirza and Lara Dutta. Ritu has also designed for international celebrities including the late Princess Diana, Anoushka Shankar and Mischa Barton.

Ritu Beri

Ritu Beri is an international fashion designer who first became established in 1990, her designs blend the Indian and western styles to create contemporary pieces enthused with Indian mysticism. Ritu Beri specialises in Haute Couture and was part of a pivotal shift that introduced India to high-fashion. Ritu Beri was the first Indian ambassador to show on the infamous catwalks of Paris and since then she has showcased her designs worldwide to critical acclaim, becoming referred to as the “Donatella Versace of India”. Ritu Beri is the recipient of the highest civilian award by the French government; the Chevalier dans l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters). Her international clients comprise of famous celebrities, politicians and even British royalty. Some of Ritu Beri’s clients include former U.S. President Bill Clinton, Prince Charles, Langes Swarovski and many Hollywood actors. In India, actors and actresses such as Madhuri Dixit, Preity Zinta and Rani Mukherjee wear her designs.

Neeta Lulla

Neeta Lulla is widely known for the the design of ethereal, traditional costumes. Her creations are highly regarded, earning Neeta Lulla multiple awards including two awards for Best Costume Design and the Kingfisher Award for Outstanding Contribution to Fashion.  Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s costume in the award winning film Jodha Akhbar was one of the costumes which Neeta received an award for. Neeta is also responsible for the design and creation of the iconic and provocative costume worn by Sridevi in the film Chandini. Neeta Lulla’s designs follow traditional styles, utilising rich fabrics and colours that speak of royalty and elegance. Some of Neeta Lulla’s clients including the aforementioned Aishwarya Rai Bachan, Abhishek Bachchan, Ameesha Patel, Hrithik Roshan and Bhagyashree.

Manish Malhotra

Known for adding visual depth and style to the stars of many films, designer Manish Malhotra is one the most successful fashion designers in Bollywood. His contemporary style with traditional colours and craftsmanship has turned him to a huge favourite amongst celebrities such as Kareena Kapoor, Kajol, Rani Mukherjee and Preity Zinta. He has also designed clothes for Hollywood actors such as Demi Moore, Kylie Minogue, Reese Witherspoon and Naomi Campbell. Manish Malhotra gained mainstream recognition when he won the Filmfare award for Best Costume Design for the movie Rangeela. Manish Malhotra proved that he isn’t a one hit wonder, winning the Best Costume Design title yet again for his designs in the film Enthiran.

Sabyasachi Mukherjee

In 1999 Sabyasachi Mukherjee graduated from the National Institute of Fashion Technology with three major awards. In 2001 Sabyasachi Mukherjee won the Most Outstanding Young Designer of India award presented by the Femina British Council. The award took Sabyasachi to London to intern with Georgina Von Etzdorf, a fashion and textile designer based in Salisbury. Sabyasachi made headlines in the national and international media when he debuted at India Fashion Week in 2002. Sabyasachi Mukherjee first designed costumes for Bollywood in the film Black. The costumes he created won him a National Award in 2005. He became an instant success and was sought out by many actresses such as Vidya Balan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Shabana Azmi and Tabu. Sabyasachi Mukherjee designs mix authentic Indian materials in vibrant colours and prints with Western influenced shapes and structures.
