Take a read of who has made our list of the top pop stars of 2015 … we predict that it’s going to be a BIG year for the following stars.
As we have just entered into another brand new year, we thought now would be a perfect time to let you know who we think will make it big in the music industry over the next 12 months. From brand new album releases from artists who have been off the radar for a considerable amount of time to fresh new artists trying to make their mark, we have just the list you need to get the know-all on who’s hot for 2015…
10. George Ezra
George Ezra entered the British music scene in the summer of 2014 and he set off to an optimistic start. Aged just 21, Ezra rose to the limelight with the release of his first single ‘Budapest’ which reached the Top 10 in many countries. His album ‘Wanted on Voyage’ also did really well, reaching number 1 in the album charts in the UK. If you like a bluesy sound coupled with a pop-folk beat then Ezra is the man for you. 2015 is set to be an even bigger year for the young artist; he sold out his UK tour in just 10 minutes! In between recording music, he is rubbing shoulders with Oscar-nominated actors such as Sir Ian McKellan who appears in Ezra’s next music video (see above). It’s not clear whether there are plans for another album release in 2015, but it certainly will be a big year for George Ezra in terms of his February tour and he certainly will be on the line-up to many a British festival.
9. The Prodigy
Dubbed the ‘Godfathers of Rave’ and smashing into the music scene a quarter of a century ago, it’s hard to forget The Prodigy from their massive 1996 single ‘Firestarter’. They are back for 2015 and they are back with a bang, with a brand new album due for release in the first quarter of 2015. ‘Nasty’, which has just been released in the UK , does not shy away from their well-known electro-punk sound. If this track is anything to go by, then their album is certainly one to highly anticipate for 2015. They are set for a huge year ahead, with them already set to headline the Isle of Wight festival in the UK this summer.
8. Charlie XCX
Charlotte Aitchison, more popularly known to the mainstream as the carefree and rebellious Charlie XCX, is a British singer-songwriter who made quite a mark in 2014. The 22-year-old, whose catchy stage name was derived from her MSN Messenger name when she was a teenager but with no explicit meaning, has scored a number 1 single with ‘I Love It‘, a track she wrote and collaborated on with Icona Pop and she also featured on Iggy Azalia’s Fancy. Not to mention the 2 top 10 hits she also achieved. The young girl has big ambitions. She says she eventually wants to go on to manage at least 5 artists and is already in the process of writing songs for Gwen Stefani and there are also rumours that she has written some stuff for Rhianna! She has been nominated for a Grammy and Brit award for both her songwriting and performance abilities… expect to see more of Charlie XCX in 2015.
7. Fleetwood Mac
Fleetwood Mac are reforming for one last time. If you are a huge fan and have never been lucky enough to catch the band perform, then you may want to dig deep into your pockets to afford the steep ticket prices for their 2015 tour. But it would be worth it, right? Spanning more than 30 years and entering the music industry back in the late 60’s, Fleetwood Mac are a legendary band. Starting off as a traditional blues band, they later recruited a new member in the form of Stevie Nicks and went on to create one of the greatest albums of all time, Rumours. With Christene McVie returning for their 2015 tour for the first time since 1990 and taking the band back to their original form, the tour will be one not to miss. There has been talk of a new album to be released in 2015, making the coming year an eventful year for Fleetwood Mac. We’d be lying to say we aren’t excited!
6. Florence and the Machine
Florence and the Machine are a British indie-pop-folk band fronted by Florence Welch, renowned for her amazing vocals, eccentric sense of style and long, red locks. They entered the British music scene back in 2007 and slowly begun to make waves with the help of BBC Introducing. The band released their debut album Lungs in 2009 which proved to be a great success, with vocals from Florence being compared to the likes of Kate Bush. This was followed by their second album ‘Ceremonials‘, which also did well. So what can we expect from the band in 2015? The band’s fan page recently posted a picture of a recording studio, hinting at the possibility of a new album in 2015. Plus, Florence and Co have already been confirmed for a number of festivals across Europe and the US.
5. Sam Smith
It would be difficult for anyone to top Sam Smith’s year in terms of success. Rising to the spotlight by featuring on dance duo Diclosure’s record ‘Latch‘, Sam was the only artist to sell 1 million albums in the UK and US, creating a storm on both sides of the Atlantic. His success comes as no surprise, his heartfelt tracks, written and performed flawlessly by Smith, are relatable to people across the globe. 2014 was certainly a stellar year for Smith and we hope to see more of the down-to-earth star in 2015. He has already got a UK tour planned in March 2015, which has already sold out. There has not been any talk of a new album for Sam Smith in 2015, however, there have been rumours that he may be featuring on Rhianna’s new album (we’ll certainly be keeping an eye out for that exciting collaboration). He may also expect to win a few Grammy’s – after all, he has been nominated a whopping 6 times!
Never one to be far from the spotlight, 2014 was an extraordinarily quiet year for Rhianna. But she has been off the radar for a reason; she has been working on her eighth studio album due for release this year, apparently titled ‘R8‘. With no album from the Barbadian songstress for a whole two years, her fans will be anticipating the release of her new album to welcome the return of her unmistakable voice. Will this album feature hits as big as ‘Umbrella’ which was one of the most played songs of the 2000’s? (Yes, the whole decade!) We will have to wait and see, as there has been no talk about release dates as of yet!
3. Meghan Trainor
Beginning singing at the age of 6 and song-writing at the age of 11, Meghan Trainor is a 21-year-old American pop singer who made her mark back in 2014 with her catchy, 50’s-60’s pop-style track ‘All About That Bass‘. Her debut single did extremely well. The single sold 6 million copies worldwide, has been viewed over 200,000,000 times and topped the charts in 58 countries! As a result of the popularity of Trainor’s first single, it is fair to say that her success will continue into 2015; she has just released her second single ‘Lips are Movin’ from her 2015 album, Title, producing yet another upbeat, contagious number. So what’s in store for Meghan this year? It’s been confirmed that she has written a song with One Direction’s Harry Styles called Someday Maybe, however, it is not sure whether this will be released. A North-American tour is also set to begin in February.
The Queen of Pop is set to make a return in 2015. Marking the 30th anniversary of 1985’s Virgin Tour, where she toured across the US and Canada, we will see Madge release her thirteenth studio album titled Rebel Heart in March. This will be followed by a massive worldwide tour, where she will perform tracks from her new album, for which she has drafted in the help of music mogul Simon Cowell to help her pen some tracks. There is no doubt the 56-year-old (we couldn’t believe it either) music veteran will also perform some of her classic pop hits such as Like a Prayer and Holiday to name a few. Not only will she be releasing a new album and touring the world, Madonna has also been scheduled to perform at the 2015 Grammy Awards, playing alongside the likes of AC/DC and Ed Sheeran.
1. Mark Ronson
Mark Ronson certainly entered 2015 on the right foot, with Uptown Funk taking the number one position in many countries worldwide. The upbeat single which Ronson collaborated on with Bruno Mars has just entered its fifth week in the UK charts at the number 1 spot plus holding the record for the all-time most-streamed track in a single week in the UK. The track will feature on Ronson’s second album Uptown Special which is due for release at the end of January. It’s no secret that Mark Ronson is a talented guy; a producer, song-writer and musician, he has produced some iconic tracks such as Amy Winehouse’s Valerie and most of Winehouse’s amazing Back to Black album.
